The Story of Our Duck Canvas Barn Jacket
Share
When we set out to make our duck canvas barn jacket, we weren’t just designing another layer. We were building a piece that stands for something. This jacket was born from a desire to return to the essentials: 100% natural fabrics, superior handcrafted construction, and the pride of being made right here in the USA. Each jacket is made start to finish by a single skilled artisan — a process that takes time, care, and intention. That means we cannot mass produce this style, and we never will. It’s a response to fast fashion and disposable design, a rugged, thoughtfully built garment meant to be worn hard, repaired, and passed down.

The Materials We Chose — and Why
- 10oz Duck Canvas — Chosen for its durability and tightly woven structure, with a lower stiffness that gives the jacket a more broken-in feel and ensures immediate wearability.
- Cotton Twill Lining — Our signature Blackwatch plaid lining is chosen for its breathability and soft hand feel, making it an ideal layer that stays comfortable against the skin."
- Genuine Buffalo Horn Buttons — Each button has naturally occurring variations in pattern and tone, offering both durability and understated detail.
- Genuine Nappa Lambskin — Chosen for its soft, flexible feel in key comfort areas like the collar, cuffs, and pocket edges. This chrome tanned leather provides a subtle contrast to the rugged canvas while offering strength, resistance to discoloration, and long lasting durability.
- Thread — For most of the stitching, we use a cotton-wrapped polyester thread — it looks and feels like cotton but has a strong polyester core for added durability. The only place we use 100% polyester thread is in the serged (overlocked) seams, where extra strength is needed to hold everything together and prevent fraying over time.
Construction
This jacket is built using traditional methods on semi-industrial equipment — no shortcuts, no mass production.
-
Straight-Stitch Construction
Every seam is assembled using a straight-stitch machine for a clean, strong finish. This method offers greater control and precision at every stage of construction. -
Serged Edge Reinforcement
All internal seams are serged to prevent fraying and add long-term durability, without compromising the garment’s structure or feel.
Each jacket is made start to finish by a single maker, allowing every detail — from stitch tension to seam alignment — to be carefully controlled by hand.

Built to Be Worn. Made to Be Kept.
This isn’t fast fashion. It’s a garment built with purpose — one at a time, by hand, using materials that last. When you wear it, you carry the time, care, and craft that went into making it.
